The characteristics and functions of the centre

The description of the installations

Generally, a center is opened in a building or camp situated no more than 30 km from a city. Preferably, the property should have land suitable for planting a garden or vegetables. Sometimes the buildings are acquired by the RETO association, but as a rule, they are rented.

The order of the centre

The order in the centres is dormitory-style. The number of places available varies, depending on the characteristics of residence in each centre.

Criterion for reception and departure from the centre

Both the reception and departure is carried out on a voluntary basis at the request of the man. At the centre their is absolutely no discrimination related to ethnic, religion, or any other causes. The stay is completely free-of-charge for all people, who require help and personally request it.

The requirements for reception into the centre

Reception into the centre needs only a voluntary desire to recover and readiness to carry out the established rules. The term of stay is voluntary, although in most cases the time required is 18 months.

Telephone negotiations in the territory of Norway

After the first call the parties agree concerning a date for further negotiations to assure that the intentions of the individual are serious and that the one is genuinely interested in entering the centre.

The leaders of the centre try to avoid accepting anyone who contacted the centre due to the insistance of relatives or a second party. At the first call, the rules of stay at the centre and the use of therapeutic methods are explained to the person wishing to be taken into the centre.

A complete analysis

To have a complete picture of the physical condition of those coming into the centre and to render adequate help, an analysis on AIDS, tuberculosis, and hepatitis is required.

Physical condition and illness of the patient are not obstacles for reception into the centre.
